Year 1935
Upper Cumberland Federal Credit Union was chartered with the purpose of serving the employees of the Carter Ink Company in Massachusetts. The original name of the credit union was Carter Inx Folx Federal Credit Union. As the Carter Ink Company expanded, an ink manufacturing plant was built in Crossville, Tennessee.

Year 1978
Over a period of years, the Carter Ink Company was purchased by Dennison Manufacturing. The Dennison Manufacturing Company was already sponsoring a credit union of their own, so it was agreed to move the Carter Inx Folx FCU into the office of the local Carter Ink Manufacturing plant in Crossville, Tennessee. At that time the credit union assets were just over $480,000. The new, local board of directors hired one employee to operate the entire credit union.

Year 1990
The credit union had grown large enough that more office space was needed than the Dennison Carter company could provide so the credit union moved into their own building on West Avenue in Crossville, Tennessee. Growth continued as local employers joined the credit union because they wanted to offer their employees credit union benefits such as low cost loans and good dividends.

Year 1995
The credit union was granted a community charter so that retirees moving to Crossville would have an option to use a local credit union. The credit union changed their name to Upper Cumberland Federal Credit Union.

Year 2001
Upper Cumberland FCU moved into a new facility at 627 Livingston Road to give members a central location in Crossville for financial transactions with plenty of parking, a three lane drive-thru, and ATM services.

Year 2002
Upper Cumberland FCU was approved to open membership to citizens of Bledsoe and Fentress County.

Year 2007
A branch office was opened in Fentress County in the Clarkrange community with full services including drive-thru and ATM. Shared Branch services was also offered to all members so they could connect to their finances at thousands of credit unions across the United States.

Year 2014
Upper Cumberland Federal Credit Union and MedEd Credit Union merge assets to provide the community a $49 million local financial institution. The credit union now serves over 7,000 member-owners.

Year 2015
Upper Cumberland FCU was approved to open membership to citizens of Putnam and White County.

A new branch office was opened at 9 Southbend Drive in Crossville across from the Covenant/CMC hospital. This additional location also offers three drive-thru lanes, ATM, two sit-down member service offices, and three private teller stations.
